I wish someone would come up with a fix to this problem.
I have two Dell 1525 laptops one with Windows 7 the other with windows Vista but it doesn’t matter what model/manufacturer I have because looking at all the countless forum post about this
same issue it seems to be a problem no matter what manufacturer you have.
Battery “plugged in not charging”.
After reviewing countless forums and trying various suggestions all of which had not fixed my problem, this is the result I have come to and hope someone
will look at and provide hopefully a fix.
I believe the problem lies in the OS.
This is what I have done that makes me think that is the problem.
My laptop uses Windows 7, after replacing the battery then the adapter and trying all those supposed fixes, of
the ones worth mentioning: I did a clean install of OS, updated and confirmed I had the latest drivers, confirmed I had all the latest updates from Microsoft, updated my system BIOS.
I decided to try a different OS, (XP).
I removed the hard drive and replaced
it with another I had with a clean install of Windows XP.
Installed all the updated drivers for that laptop as well as all the Microsoft updates.
It booted and operated properly, however my battery was charging normally.
I allowed the battery to fully discharge
and it charged with no problems.
I ran this laptop continually for a week letting it discharge then recharge fully with no issues at all.
I reinstalled the original hard drive with Windows 7 and the problem returned.
My second laptop with Windows Vista is
having the same issue.
I did the same as above with that laptop with the same results.
Windows XP charges the battery Windows Vista doesn’t.
Remember when all I changed was the OS all the components, (other than the hard drive with windows XP), were the same
which leads me to believe that it’s not a component issue when it works well with one OS and not the other without any issues at all.
The connection between Windows 7 and Windows Vista is Windows 7 uses a lot of the same drivers as Windows Vista as well as
code.
They are very alike in builds.
Probably the reason the problem spans both Windows 7 and Vista.
So, what to do now? Any ideas what I can do other than a clean install of Windows XP on all my systems?? Reviewing all the forums about this issue it’s not
a small problem affecting a few machines it’s a big problem affecting many and I think it’s about time it gets some needed attention.

Old battery? Unplug power to computer - remove battery and clean the contacts with a pencil
eraser (do not use this if your battery has thin slots - just clean the knife edges that fit into
them and be careful).
Batteries do wear out if old, or it could be a problem with the computer.
Check with the support of the system maker and many of them have on line forums.

Newer type Litium-Ion batteries usually last longer if you do not discharge then below 30%

however on a laptop that will not extend their life that much.
Best is to use A/C adapter

whenever possible.

You might also want to check with the System Maker and any forums as many use their own

proprietary software to monitor the battery and their could be known issues with your battery.

Then Control Panel - Device Manager - Batteries - Double Click on each item - Drivers tab - Update Drivers
(which may not do anything) - then Right Click and UNINSTALL each - REBOOT which will refresh the Driver
