Can I set up Windows Backup so that it simply updates the "changes" since my last backup?

I'm beginning to use Windows Backup to save all of my important files.
The question I have is:
Can I set up Windows Backup so that it simply updates the "changes" since my last backup?  If so, how do I enable that ability?  If it can do that, does it update the backup I currently have, or create an entirely new one?  The issue that I'm running into
is that I don't have enough space on my external HD to keep two separate copies of backups, and thus I am getting error messages that I don't have enough space available when doing another (second) backup.  I, then, have to delete the first backup and let
it then go through the entire backup process (3-4 hours) to create a new backup.
