Aftre upgrading to Windows 8.1 - Unable to play DVD's/Issue with Opening Microsoft Office document.

Original title: Two questions - relates to Windows 8.1
 
I am not exactly sure why, but it seems that when I upgraded my Acer Aspire V5 from Windows 8.1 Preview to Windows 8.1, it am having some weird software issues. 

1) I cannot play any sort of dvd - nothing on my computer exists to play something on a disc.
It shows up in my D: drive, however, autoplay doesn't have any way to read such dvd.
Perhaps I lack the software? I am not sure.
I have windows media player,
zune, itunes, and the app for movies.
Any suggestions?

2) I have office 2013 and usually you can pull up previously worked on documents by right clicking on let's say the Word icon and selecting a document.
I can still right click on the icon and a list comes up, but when I click to select the document I'd
like to view, it says, "the item you selected is unavailable.
It might have been moved, renamed, or remove.
Do you want to remove it from this list?" The weird part is that when I right click on the actual document itself after I have right clicked on the
Office icon and I select "Open file location," there is no problem.
It does this for every document, not just select ones.
