I am so disgusted with Word 2007 that I don't even want to consider Word 2010.  Why is it that when I rebott my computer and turn Word back on again I have to go and reset all my specific requirements.
 
For instance, I have to go into auto correct exceptions and uncheck Automatically add words to list.  I do not want to add ANY word to any list.
 
I have to check the Insert key to control overtype.  I have to uncheck use subscript for fractions et cetera.  How can I get word to store all my requirements on a permanent basis?  Is this possible?

This sounds like a damaged registry key.
Try deleting the Data key in the registry, with Word closed.
Then restart Word and re-select the settings that you want.
