A940 reinstallation problems

Have just upgraded to Windows 7 on a new Latitude.  Have no luck in installing A940 printer.  All drivers seems to be in place, but system response is "Cannot print with printer set-up" or something along those lines.  Have a new network printer installed
as well, which is working fine.  The A940 has been tried as default and as optional.  Printer appears on the installed device list

Did you first run
Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue?
 
Disconnect the printer.
 
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility, until it prompts you to restart your computer.
 
Restart your computer.
Make sure the printer is removed.

Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

With Windows 7, I found that installing the Vista software/drivers in the compatibility mode works well.

Run CHKDSK

  • Go to the Start button.
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
An error might pop up:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

  • Go to theStart button.
  • Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
  • Select "Run as Administrator".
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
