Network adapter problems when upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8.1

I have a HP Pavilion a1007w  that was running Windows XP.  I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  Now I cannot get a internet connection.  I use an ethernet cable connected to my PC for internet.  Now with Windows 8.1 I get an error that says I need to download the
network adapter driver and I don't have a clue what is going on.  I'm not very computer wise.  I don't even know how to look to find out what I have.  I use a wireless broadband service.

It seems to be an issue with Network Adapter driver compatibility.
I would suggest you to download the latest Network Adapter drivers from HP website and then try installing it compatibility mode and c check if it works for you.
