Tech Support: 1T Hard drive good on Win 7 but Raw on Win 8

1T Hard drive good on Win 7 but Raw on Win 8

I have recently upgraded my desktop to a new machine with Windows 8.
I have a Western Dtgital 1T hard drive in an external USB2 / eSATA case and the drive has a SATA connection inside the case.
I use this drive to store photos and videos etc, not as a boot
drive.
I also have a work laptop running Win 7 (company policy) that has an eSATA port and the external drive works perfectly on the laptop.
It is NTFS file system and about half full.
When I plug the external drive into the new Win 8 desktop it comes up as
a RAW drive (1T) and is not accessible within windows (it is recognised as the correct hardware in the BIOS and in the disk manager).
Any attempt to look at the drive in Windows Explorer comes up with a request that I format the drive, obvioulsy something
I will never do.
I have searched numerous forums for a sensible answer and most ask that the drive letter be changed (doesn't work) or that the drive's errors be fixed (it works perfectly on the Win 7 laptop so is not corrupted).
I have also removed the drive
from its case and directly connected it to the Win 8 machine motherboard SATA in the same arrangement as the internal HDD (comes up exactly the same as when it is inside the casev - RAW 1T drive and a request to please format).
I have also connected to USB2
on both machines with the same outcome (working perfectly - but slower - on the Win 7 laptop, RAW 1T drive on the Win 8 desktop).
I have also updated the BIOS for the Win 8 motherboard.
I am basically out of options.
Any reasonable suggestions above and beyond
those listed will be greatly appreciated.
Suggestions that involve backing up the drive (to a new one - this is what I am trying to avoid), format it, and start again will not be seen in a good light.
I am assuming that there is a sensible way for a drive
that works perfectly on Win 7 to be visible on a Win 8 machine without losing the data.

Download Error Fixer for Free Now

Hi,

Is it possible that the WD drive has installed some type of auto-backup software that is required to read it? Some external Seagate drives do this...

Is it possible that the "Work" laptop has somehow encrypted the drive with Bit Locker or some other type of security feature?
