A program has changed your default search provider error when tried to add the search provider in Internet Explorer
Original title:"how to add search providers in ie8 running 32-bit Windows XP Pro? "
I can not add search providers to Internet Explorer 8 with my computer running 32bit Windows XP Pro.
ALSO; When I open Internet explorer 8; I get a window open stating '.....a program has changed your default search provider.
We have changed
your default search provider back to when you installed IE 8. Then, the window switches to the Internet Options tab, "programs"/manage your
add ons. This happens every time Internet Explorer 8 is started! And you can not add any additional search providers! AND, you are unable to
change the default browser!!! I installed the "Hotfix" provided by Microsoft to correct this problem about 10 minutes ago; restarted computer,
opened Internet Explorer 8 and that same window appears stating "some program" (and it doesn't tell you what program!?!!) hijacked and
changed your browser provider and returned it to the "original" default......"
AGAIN: YOUR RECENTLY AVAILABLE "HOTFIX" DID NOT WORK!
Solutions to the Problem A program has changed your default search provider error when tried to add the search provider in Internet Explorer
I ended up wiping my hard drive clean and re-installing Windows.
After correcting all of my settings and re-installing IE 8, I found everything worked "O.K."!
my previous installation had become too corrupt! probably from my own 'fooling with it'.
I installed the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.2 and have all of the Media Center 2005 (Windows XP Pro) security updates. I highly recommend anyone running this free program to insure your operating system is secure! Of course, it would
be optimal to be running Windows 7 with IE 9; but, I will stay with my setup until Windows 8 arrives! and I buy a new computer! Thanks for the advice. wfejnieh
