Access Denied 0x80070005 Restoring XP backup to Windows 7
original title: Restoring XP Pro from a backup run in Win 7
I have a dual boot system with XP Pro and Win7 Ultimate.
The XP Pro belongs on another PC which could not be booted up.
There was only a PC with Win 7 that the Sata drive from the XP pc could be connected to for backup.
When restoring the XP Pro backup created with Win 7 I can see the files being restored.
There are many 0x80070005 errors that are reported as access denied.
This only happens for the Document and Settings for the user.
The data for administrator etc are
restored correctly.
In windows explorer the Document and Settings folders in the user section say Access Denied when I try to open them.
I have to start XP in safe mode and get access to the security, add administrator and then have administrator become the owner.
Before this
change can happen there is one user with a name starting with s123 etc.
This has an icon of two persond infront of the S.
There is a large amount of data to be restored.
I have tried taking small sections but still get the same error message.
The log that is produced at the end of a full restore is 20,331kb in size.
This is a sample
D:\G\Documents and Settings\McGregor\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent\azw2341i.dot.LNK.
Error:Access is denied.

Don't Download Malware
Where are you getting the download?
There are malicious people who download valid copies of a popular download, modify the file with malicious software, and then upload the file with the same name. Make sure you are downloading from the developer's web page or a reputable company.
Don't install download manager
Many sites suggest or require you to install an installer or a download manager before allowing you to download a program you may be interested in downloading. These tools almost always cause your computer more problems and may even have malware or other spyware. Avoid any site claiming anything must be installed first before you can continue with your download.
Avoid advertisements on download pages
To help make money and pay for the bandwidth costs of supplying free the software, the final download page may have ads. Watch out for anything that looks like advertisements on the download page. Many advertisers try to trick viewers into clicking an ad with phrases like "Download Now", "Start Download", or "Continue" and that ad may open a separate download.
Cancel or deny any automatic download
Some sites may automatically try start a download or give the appearance that something needs to be installed or updated before the site or video can be seen. Never accept or install anything from any site unless you know what is downloading.
