Problem Opening Files - Browser Choice Appearing

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with opening applications on windows vista.  I either get a pop up saying "Application Not Found" or a pop up called "Browser Choice" appears and asks me which program I wish to open the file with. 
This has not happened before so was wondering if you could please provide me with some help.

·         Are you receiving this error message only when opening particular applications?
 
I would suggest you to check default program settings on your computer.
Make sure the file association type is set proper
Refer the below link: Change which program http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default
 
Uninstall the browser choice update tool and check if the issue persists.

Run CHKDSK to Fix Problem Opening Files - Browser Choice Appearing

• Go to the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.

An error might pop up:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

• Go to theStart button.
• Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
• Select "Run as Administrator".
• In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Reboot your computer.
