Windows 7 Wont Shut Down - Continues to reboot
Hi All,
I can not seem to get my new HP 6550b probook to shut down.
I can force it through using the power button, but i can not get it to shut down using the Shut Down options on the screen.
Can anyone help me? When i force it using the power button, I get a black
screen that tells me the computer hasnt been shut down properly and that i can contunie in safe mode.
I need a solution as this is driving me insane!

1. What happens when you try to shut down the computer?
2. Since when are you facing this issue?
Step 1
Check if the issue occurs in safe mode.
Boot to safe mode.

Step 2
Put your computer in clean boot to check if the issue is caused by any application.

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article.
Boot to normal mode and check the status.
Step 3
If the issue persists, check the event viewer.
What information appears in event logs? (Event Viewer)

Run CHKDSK to Fix Windows 7 Wont Shut Down - Continues to reboot
- Go to the Start button.
- In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Reboot your computer.
"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."
If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:
- Go to theStart button.
- Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
- Select "Run as Administrator".
- In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
- Reboot your computer.
